
A fascinating interview with Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands, just dropped at the SuperAI conference in Singapore. His message was surprisingly simple for someone who has invested in over 600 technology companies: the jobs of the future will not go to the people who can code the fastest. They will go to the people who can think most creatively.
Siu's argument is this: AI is going to commoditise intelligence. It can already write code better than many junior developers. It can draft legal documents, analyse medical scans and generate architectural plans. What it cannot do — at least not well — is originate. It cannot imagine something genuinely new. It remixes what already exists.
This is why Siu believes creativity will become the most in-demand quality. Not artistic creativity necessarily, although that counts too. He means the ability to ask unconventional questions, to connect ideas from different fields, to spot opportunities no algorithm would think to look for, and to coordinate other humans around a vision.
For parents, this should be liberating. For years we have been told that the safe path is STEM: science, technology, engineering, mathematics. Those subjects matter enormously. But Siu is saying something important: the raw technical execution is becoming cheaper by the month. The value is shifting to what you do with the tools, not whether you can build them from scratch.
Think about it. A child who learns to code but never learns to question, to imagine or to argue a point will be competing with an AI that codes flawlessly and never sleeps. A child who learns to use AI as a creative partner — to generate ten ideas, critique them, combine the best and present a vision — will be directing the AI, not competing with it.
Siu is also optimistic about jobs overall. He believes AI will create more roles than it eliminates, but with a twist: the disruption will be real, and the transition will be uncomfortable for people who assumed their technical skills were enough.
So what does this mean for a parent tonight? It means the conversations you have at the dinner table matter more than the worksheets your child completes. Ask them what they wonder about. Encourage them to argue a point you both know is wrong, just to practise defending an idea. Let them change the rules of a game and see what happens. These are creativity drills, and they cost nothing.
It also means AI literacy is not just a technical subject. It is a creative one. The child who knows how to prompt an AI effectively is not following a script. They are learning to articulate a vision precisely enough for a machine to execute it. That is a creative skill disguised as a technical one.
The future belongs to the creative generalist: someone who can think across boundaries, ask better questions and direct intelligent tools with judgment. That person can come from any background. But they will not emerge from a system that only rewards memorisation and right answers. Start building the habit now. Your child's creativity is their future unfair advantage.
